LAYERED FILES
Layered SVG files: order, registration and drift
Why the third layer never lines up, and how registration marks and cut order prevent it.

Cut order is not cosmetic
Cut the largest background layer first and the smallest detail last. Doing it the other way round means pressing a fresh blade against a piece that is already fragile.
Registration marks give every layer the same origin
Four corner marks let you align each layer to the mat rather than to the layer below it. Drift compounds; an origin does not.
Keep the palette small
Three to five colours is the practical range for home cutting. Each extra layer adds transfer tape, press time and one more chance to misalign.
Test one layer before the set
Cut the smallest, most detailed layer first. If it weeds cleanly, the rest will. If it tears, no amount of alignment will save the piece.

Describe artwork and get flat vector paths back, ready for Cricut, Silhouette or a laser.
WORDS → VECTOR
Text to SVG, as paths a blade can follow.
Two different jobs share the phrase “text to SVG”: outlining typed letters, and drawing artwork from a description.
